The EU's directive to decrease emissions has posed a complex challenge for France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The Creathon brought together Pulsed students, staff, and esteemed institutions from the Netherlands, France, and Belgium to explore this topical challenge. With a laser focus on tackling this urgent issue, participants immersed themselves in the world of sustainable solutions for agriculture and food, first in Wageningen, The Netherlands, and then in Lille, France.

The program in Wageningen started with icebreakers and introductory sessions featuring speakers from France and the Netherlands who shared insights into sustainable food strategies in their countries. The group was remarkable, including Bachelor to Ph.D. students with diverse fields of study, from sociology to business entrepreneurship and research on insect-based food products. "The students could immediately deep-dive into the topic but also to get to know each other. It was nice to see how quickly the bonds formed during the first sessions in Wageningen amongst the students and coaches worldwide." Pulser Milou summarises the atmosphere.

Energized by their accomplishments in Wageningen, the participants eagerly embarked on the next part of the Creathon journey in Lille. The focus shifted towards refining their projects based on invaluable feedback from the preparatory sessions. The agenda in Lille was equally thrilling, featuring inspirational talks by experts, site visits to sustainable initiatives like the reconstructed Vives Cail industry site and an urban farm, and a roundtable expert session at Sciences Po University. "Participating in Creathon Lille and giving feedback on the student's final pitches was great. The ideas and pitches were high-level. I was quite impressed." Pulser Peter describes his experience in Lille. "But most importantly, seeing the strong team spirit formed by intensive working in teams felt good. I could see that the students became friends in a short time," he adds.

Among the participants was Jaimy, a Pulsed student who initially doubted his ability to succeed in Creathon due to his lack of experience in the food sector. However, he surprised himself and his team when their innovative idea for a vending machine selling leftover restaurant meals as late-night snacks won the Creathon. Jaimy's experience showcased the power of collaboration and personal triumph in driving meaningful change.

As the Creathon concluded, strong connections were forged among the participants, leading to heartfelt moments of hugs and tears. The bonds formed during the intense collaboration extended beyond the event, with plans made to reunite and continue their shared journey.

Fontys Pulsed Academy and its participants at the Cross-Creathon 2023 demonstrated their dedication, creativity, and ability to work collaboratively, shining a light on sustainable solutions for agriculture and food. Their success showcased the power of international cooperation and inspired others to continue striving for a more sustainable future.
